Jamyla made her directorial debut with the short film DWELLING. The short was adapted from the feature script of the same name. With the DWELLING feature script, Jamyla was selected for the 2023-2024 cohort of the Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund Fellows and the project received a Zaentz Fund screenplay development grant. The project advanced to the second round of consideration for the Sundance Institute Development Track.

Her other two scripts were selected for the Quarterfinal Round of the 2016 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition and the 2017-2018 Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund Screenplay Lab.

DWELLING (2024)

After a young Black couple buys their first home, their American Dream quickly becomes a nightmare when they’re tormented by the ghost of the racist former owner. And when an ill-equipped deacon attempts to expel the ghost, they’re left in even more danger than before. (11 mins.)
